E-VERIFY PROGRAM FOR EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITYThe E-Verify program, formerly known as Basic Pilot or the Employment Eligibility Verification System (EEVS), is jointly administered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA). This Internet based program allows participating employers to verify whether newly hired employees are authorized to work in the United States by checking the information provided by the employees on their Form I-9 against both DHS and SSA databases. As a participant in the Pilot program, the State of North Carolina was the first state to use E-Verify throughout all agencies and universities. E-Verify is currently the best means available for employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of their newly hired employees. The program virtually eliminates Social Security mismatch letters, improves the accuracy of wage and tax reporting, protects jobs for authorized workers, and helps you to maintain a legal workforce. Participation in E-Verify is currently free to employers. To find out more about the E-Verify program, visit https://www.vis-dhs.com/. |
