DIRECTORY OF SAMPLE CORRECTIVE ACTION PLANS (cap)

Corrective action plans help the employee focus on a performance (or conduct) issue that they need to address. On the positive side, they provide guidance, helping employees raise their performance to the level where expectations are being met and clarifying the reasons why meeting those expectations is important. The flip side is that CAPs spell out the consequences of failing to raise the level of performance. Of considerable importance, should the employee continue to fail to meet expectations, is the role CAPs play in providing documentation to support appropriate disciplinary actions.

Given their importance, it is useful to have some examples of CAPs to serve as models or starting points when drafting a CAP for one of your own employees. That is the purpose of this directory. Use this directory to find a CAP that focuses on an issue that is similar to the issue your employee presents, and then modify the sample plan to fit the specific situation.

Consult your agency's performance management and disciplinary action policies before using this directory. The CAP format and examples may not be entirely consistent with the specifics of your plan.

The directory has started out small. As we collect new examples of effective plans, the directory will grow. If you have used a plan to address a specific employee problem, and the plan worked really well, please share it with us.
