CAP — NOT FOLLOWING PROCEDURES (CLEAN UP)

Sample Corrective Action Plan

Concisely describe what needs improvement, why, and the consequences of failure to improve.

On four occasions during the past month, I have come into the lab and found dirty laboratory dishes and instruments left on the counter and the sink. It is your responsibility to follow standard operating procedures to ensure that the lab area is clean, neat, and orderly prior to leaving for the day. This includes making sure that all dishes are washed, dried and put away.

Lab researchers and technicians come into work expecting that they will be able to begin their work upon arrival. They need clean working spaces and enough dishes and instruments to carry out daily research tasks. When areas are messy and dishes are dirty, lab technicians must clean the area and work is delayed. Delays not only affect the productivity of researchers and staff, but can also affect the timing of important experiments.

Failure to correct this problem may lead to disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.

Describe how successful improvement will be measured. Refer to the specific results expectations or behavioral expectations in question.

I will check the lab each morning when I arrive and will expect to see the lab work areas properly cleaned and stocked.

Action steps employee will take and target dates.

At the end of each workday, you will see that all dishes and instruments are cleaned, dried, and put away, counters wiped down and organized, fluid levels on experimental supplies checked and refilled as necessary, and lab equipment and supplies available and restocked as needed. You may create a checklist to help you remember to cover all the tasks before you leave in the evening.

Resources and support to be provided.

Instructions for clean up and lab preparation are on wall over sink. Soap, towels, and disinfectant available under sink. Restocking materials in lab closet.

Follow up. State when the supervisor will meet again with the employee to check on progress.
