Jane Bozarth, e-learning coordinator for North Carolina state government, wrote this book as a guide for educators (anyone from front-line managers to instructional designers) interested in creating effective online learning programs with limited time and resources and it is, indeed, an excellent tool for achieving very professional results with minimum effort.
Ms. Bozarth takes the fear and intimidation out of using the array of applications available within the PowerPoint program to create dynamic and outstanding presentations. She proves that owning a plethora of expensive and difficult to learn publishing or web development software is not necessary when PowerPoint can produce many of the same effects with such surprising ease.
Many PowerPoint users never go beyond the basics of selecting preformatted template designs and using only text and bullet points on slides when designing a presentation because they have a preconceived notion that all the bells and whistles will be so difficult to learn to apply. This book takes the reader step by step through the process of designing a storyboard and dressing it up with cool and effective features such as animation, artistic design, photos, graphics, video, sound, interactive features, hyperlinks and more. Readers will be surprised by the quality of design they will be able to achieve just by following Ms. Bozarth's simple instructions and suggestions.
While the book addresses using PowerPoint to develop online educational tutorials, the tips and tricks can also be used to make any PowerPoint presentation more interesting, engaging and effective.
The book also comes with an excellent CD tutorial that provides narrated and interactive demonstrations of the applications illustrated in the book.
